Gary Neville and both Jamie Carragher picked Manchester United to win the title of biggest underachiever this season. The two handed their picks for a bunch of awards via Instagram but the Red Devils pulled the short end of the stick.

Manchester United came into this season after finishing the last one in third place. They were playing in the UCL, had to defend their League Cup, and were also planning on being competitive in the FA Cup.

However, it all quickly fell apart as injuries struck the Old Trafford squad and Erik ten Hag just didn’t have enough depth in his lineup to cope. As a result, the Red Devils didn’t even make it out of the group stages in the UCL.

The team also failed to defend their League Cup and are currently eighth on the Premier League table. The only thing the Red Devils have going for them is the FA Cup. However, the finals are against Man City and it’ll take a miracle for Ten Hag and his men to beat Pep Guardiola’s team.

A lot was expected of Manchester United this season and being a fan himself, Neville must’ve been disheartened by his team’s poor state. His decision to give the Red Devils the most unwanted title for this season makes sense.

Neville also appreciated the team when they played well, he even ranked Manchester United’s 4-3 win over Liverpool as his favorite game of the season. Unfortunately, a couple of big wins are all that Old Trafford will have to sing about from this campaign.
