Manchester United icon says Arsenal were ‘lucky’ in win over the Red Devils

Manchester United just couldn’t find a way through the Arsenal defensive line tonight. Despite their best efforts, the Red Devils were held to zero goals as the Gunners held on to their first-half lead to take all three points at Old Trafford tonight.

It was a mistake from Erik ten Hag’s CBs Jonny Evans and Casemiro that led to Arsenal’s only goal of the game. While they kept trying to add to their lead, Andre Onana stood tall and guarded his goal well tonight.

While the Gunners looked like the better side over 90 minutes of football, Manchester United icon, Roy Keane believes they should consider themselves ‘lucky’. Let’s have a look at what he had to say. (h/t The Independent)

“I think Arsenal will be thinking how lucky they were to play such a poor Manchester United team today.

“The end product, the lack of quality, the decision making, people making mistakes and not putting demands on each other.

Keane added that no one on the Man United squad was digging their teammates out for mistakes. He also stated that the team was particularly bad in the last 30 minutes of action. However, that’s not the whole truth.

Manchester United weren’t bad today as a result of Arsenal’s luck, instead the team was bad today because of a difference in mentality. Aretat’s men were determined and played for the win the entire night.

On the other hand, Erik ten Hag’s crew barely had enough energy in them. The team failed to show any urgency even when they were out of possession and had no clear plan while they were on the attack.

While Arsenal were ‘lucky’ that Manchester United were missing most of their best players, even having them on the pitch wouldn’t have translated to an automatic win for the Red Devils.
