Casemiro might’ve ended Manchester United’s season with an error against Arsenal
Manchester United were already struggling to score against Arsenal and their defensive midfielder, Casemiro might’ve given the game away with his mistake on defence. The Red Devils lost 1-0 and the Brazilian’s mistake led to the Gunners’ only goal.
Casemiro failed to mark Trossard who snuck in to finish the cross put in by Kai Havertz and put his team up by a goal. While Jonny Evans should also be blamed for not closing in on time, the Brazilian really should’ve done a better job at covering his man.
Then again the fans can’t blame him because he’s only there due to the team’s ongoing injury crisis. Erik ten Hag doesn’t seem to blame the Brazilian either. Let’s have a look at what he had to say while speaking about Casemiro’s mistake. (h/t BBC)
“In that situation, he is a midfielder playing in that position and making a small mistake, but it has hard consequences”
While it surely had ‘hard consequences’ Casemiro gets the benefit of the doubt since he is not used to playing as a centre-back. Ten Hag also indicated that his team doesn’t realise what’s at stake, he said Manchester United needs to realise that every game needs to be played like a final.
However, with just three games left, the Dutchman doesn’t have any real chance at a comeback anymore. Man United could win all of their remaining games and it still won’t guarantee them a place in Europe next season.
Their fate is no longer in their hands and all the team can do now is play their best game and avoid making mistakes like they did today.
