Getafe boss gives verdict on Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood
Mason Greenwood’s loan stint at Getafe has certainly turned heads since his arrival from Manchester United last summer.
He’s indeed put up a promising display in La Liga, bagging six goals and five assists in 27 appearances for Los Azulones.
With Greenwood’s loan spell in Spain, speculation about his future has naturally followed suit. While Manchester United ponders his fate – whether to retain, sell, or loan him out again – Getafe boss Jose Bordalas seems inclined to keep the English winger for another season, as he hinted to the media.
Here is what he told Marca:
“We have not spoken yet, it is in the same situation as the other loanees, it is important to finish as well as possible. You have to end up with a good image and good feelings for them and the club. When everything is defined, it will be time to get down to work to face whether Mason can stay another year or not, It will depend on his club and the decision he makes. Let’s see what the immediate future holds for us”.
Despite Getafe’s interest in Greenwood, whispers suggest that other La Liga clubs, including Atletico Madrid, are eyeing him up. However, whether Greenwood stays put in Spain remains uncertain. As for a return to Manchester United, well, that’s about as likely as snow in July, given the circumstances surrounding his departure and the Red Devils’ apparent desire to cash in on him.
Greenwood’s time at Getafe has showcased his talent, but it’s best not to overstate his contribution, given the circumstances of his departure from United. It’s a delicate matter for the broader fanbase despite his performances on loan.
For United fans, the prospect of seeing Greenwood back in the red shirt is a tantalising one. But it seems the dice may have already been rolled in favour of a new chapter elsewhere. Still, one can’t help but wonder what might have been if things had played out differently if the entire saga had not happened.
