Gary Neville tells Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag how to save his job
Former Manchester United skipper, Gary Neville still believes Erik ten Hag can save his job. The Dutchman’s stock took a heavy hit this past week as the world witnessed his team bottle a 3-0 lead to Championship side, Coventry City.
Even though the Red Devils came away with the win it was an embarrassing night for them. Ever since then, the talk surrounding Erik ten Hag’s future has only gotten louder. Everyone’s wondering whether the Coventry City game was the last nail in the coffin.
While the world thinks the Dutchman’s time is over, Gary Neville still believes Erik ten Hag can save his job at Manchester United this summer. Here’s what he had to say about it while speaking to BBC.
“Winning trophies cannot be underestimated. They won a trophy last season [the Carabao Cup] and if they won the FA Cup it would be extremely difficult to sack him.”
Like Neville says if Erik ten Hag wins the FA Cup it will indeed become extremely difficult to sack him. The FA Cup would be the Dutchman’s second trophy in two years, a lot of United managers have gotten away with worse records in the past.
So, winning his second trophy is now key for Erik ten Hag. However, the road ahead is extremely difficult. To win the FA Cup Man United will have to beat their local rivals Man City.
The team has already lost to them twice this season and next month could very easily become their third loss.
