Tottenham Hotspur wants to sign Manchester United forward Anthony Martial as a free agent during the upcoming summer transfer window
Manchester United forward Anthony Martial could join Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur as a free agent during the summer window. The 28-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the current season and he is already eligible for a pre-contract agreement.
Martial has struggled with injury and consistency throughout this season, facing criticism from pundits associated with United and the fans. The France international joined United from AS Monaco in 2015 in an inflated price for a teenager at that time.
Throughout his tenure, Martial has failed to live up to the big expectations that came with his price tag. The 28-year-old suffered from nagging injuries and inconsistent performances despite having immense potential to lead the club’s attacking lineup.
Martial’s struggle coincided with the struggles of Man United and the recurring theme of changing managers as the only solution. He has spent nine seasons at Old Trafford but only scored more than 20 goals in one season.
He faced criticism for his lack of productivity in front of goals and his overall contribution this season. Many pundits pointed out Martial for lacking the work rate and ethics to help his teammates in the defensive phases.
Furthermore, they questioned his link-up play with the rest of the team which is incohesive and compromises the build-up. The 28-year-old has made 19 appearances in all competitions this season, contributing with just two goals and an assist.
According to Tuttosport (h/t Manchester Evening News), Premier League rivals Spurs are planning to secure Martial as a free agent. The London clubs are looking to bolster their attacking lineup, having only Timo Werner and Richardlison in their ranks.
