Stan Collymore says he would escort a former Manchester United defender to Villa Park
Former Manchester United defender, Teden Mengi made a brave move and left for Luton Town earlier this season. The 21-year-old was not getting a lot of opportunities at Old Trafford and believed it was time to test himself elsewhere.
Well, his move to Luton has been a blockbuster and he has quickly solidified a spot on the first team. Mengi has made 32 appearances so far and has even scored a goal for Luton despite starting at centre-back.
Former England striker, Stan Collymore rates him very highly. In fact, recently while talking to Caught Offside, Collymore stated that he would personally drive Megi to the Villa Park if things line up. Let’s have a look.
“Sure, he’s not long left Old Trafford to ply his trade at Luton but I can’t be the only one who’s noticed that he has all of the background, the ambition to leave United at 21 to go it alone.”
“Personally, I’d drive him to Villa Park tomorrow if Unai Emery fancies it.”
Collymore also indicated that Mengi has room to grow. He shed light on his performances with club and country and says the 21-year-old has excellent grounding with his experience. If he takes the next step Mengi can easily make a name for himself if he stays consistent.
Stan holds the view that the English defender will be on the radar of several “big clubs” during the summer. However, Manchester United will likely not be a part of that list. First off, there’s no guarantee the 21-year-old will want to come back.
Moreover, reports say the Red Devils already have their eyes set on Italian defender, Giorgio Scalvini. Bremer is another star defender who has been linked to Man United ahead of the summer transfer window.
INEOS and their recruitment team will have their work cut out for them this summer. As things stand, Mengi seems to be flourishing into a star after leaving the Red Devils.
