Manchester United icon asks supporters to not overhype Kobbie Mainoo.
Manchester United star, Kobbie Mainoo is having a terrific season this year. The 18-year-old has come to light as a star in the middle of the park. He was one again against Liverpool in the Red Devils’ last game.
Mainoo scored a world-class goal to put his team ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s side. The 18-year-old has been getting a lot of praise from the fans after his Liverpool heroics. However, Manchester United icon, Paul Ince has asked fans to calm down. Let’s have a look at what he had to say. (h/t talkSPORT)
“He is okay. He is okay. Let’s not get carried away.”
“Yes, he scored a great goal, yes, he is still young, yes, he has got potential to be a very, very good player, but let’s not go over the top, let’s not go over the top.”
Ince also shed light on one of Mainoo’s mistakes and said he wasn’t berated for it. He believes that if that would have been him or Roy Keane in that position they would’ve been ‘roasted’. However, no one said a word to the 18-year-old.
The club’s culture is a lot different than what it used to be back when Keane and Ince were still active. Now, it seems like no one cares enough to grill each other for his mistake. However, calling Kobbie Mainoo just ‘okay’ is a bit harsh.
The 18-year-old has consistently given better performances than his midfield partner, Casemiro. Moreover, his position while defending the box is something to marvel at. Mainoo is surely more than just an okay player.
However, Ince is right to say the fans shouldn’t be overhyping Mainoo. It’s not that he doesn’t deserve it, but that he doesn’t need that pressure at this time.
