Gary Neville uses Man City star’s example to praise Manchester United youngster, Kobbie Mainoo
Former Manchester United skipper, Gary Neville rates United midfielder, Kobbie Mainoo very highly. The 18-year-old is having quite the season and has even earned himself a spot in England’s national team.
Neville had a ton of praise for Mainoo while speaking on the Overlap (h/t Manchester Evening News). He even compared 18-year-old Mainoo to a former Man City star, let’s have a closer look at what he had to say.
“You can’t do that unless you’re… I used to think Owen Hargreaves could do that for United. Hargreaves was a great tackler in midfield, he would go and take the ball off people.”

Neville added that Mainoo’s play style is very similar to Hargreaves. He was extremely appreciative of how the 18-year-old midfielder has defended the box for his team this season.
The former Red Devil also mentioned that there aren’t a lot of players who can do the things that Kobbie Mainoo does. That is very high praise for such a young player, but the English midfielder deserves every bit of it.
Hargreaves had quite a career playing for huge clubs like Manchester United, Man City and Bayern Munich. If Mainoo can be consistent he’s also in for a starstruck career ahead of him.
The 18-year-old’s primary focus during this time should be to stay healthy and continue to put up performances on the big stage.
