“It could happen” says Roy Keane when asked about Manchester United star’s chances of playing in the 2024 Euros.
Former Manchester United star, Roy Keane says that the team’s young prospect, Kobbie Mainoo could play in the 2024 Euros. 18-year-old Mainoo has been extremely impressive for United this season earning his first call-up for England.
The Red Devils midfielder is currently at England’s training camp working under head coach Garret Southgate. Here’s what Keane had to say when asked about Mainoo’s chances for the Euros this year. (h/t Stick to Football)
“When Wayne (Rooney) came through – you look at a young player when you get to see him close up you go ‘I like what I see’. It could happen.”
Roy added that the timing seems to be in favour of young Kobbie Mainoo. With Kalvin Phillips out and Jordan Henderson being past his prime the time is right for a new start to make his place with the Three Lions.
Mainoo is expected to participate in the upcoming friendly games against Brazil and Belgium. If the 18-year-old can put on a good show he might make it to the Euros. However, these are only friendlies so the impact of his performance might not be as great as we expect it to be.
Whatever the case may be, Mainoo cannot afford to get injured during his time away from Manchester United. The team has already been reeling with injuries for the majority of this season. If he becomes their latest injured star things could quickly go downhill for the team.
Mainoo is very young and has a lot of time to contribute to the England team’s success. It would be wise for Garret Southgate to not risk the player’s health for friendlies.
