Manchester United goalkeeper, Andre Onana was shown a ‘lack of respect’ says El Hadji Diouf
Former Senegalese striker, El Hadji Diouf was not happy with how Manchester United goalkeeper, Andre Onana was treated at AFCON. Onana risked his place in the Red Devils’ team to play for Cameroon and only appeared in one out of four matches.
The 27-year-old raced against time to get to the AFCON and was still left out of the first game. He was then given a start marking his only appearance. Onana warmed the bench for the rest of the tournament.
This did not set well with El Hadji Diouf who had some words for the Cameroon team’s captain. Let’s have a look at what he had to say. (h/t Afriquesports)
“How can we have a goalkeeper of Onana’s caliber, an immense talent who plays at Manchester United , and not play him in the round of 16 match?”
Ever since this incident, there has been a lot of talk about Onana’s future with the International team. The Cameroon goalkeeper has already retired once in the past after his team was knocked out of the World Cup in 2022.
Now this disrespect and the blow of being out of the AFCON could prompt the player to do so again. However, for the time being, Onana’s full attention is on Manchester United. The 27-year-old has slowly been starting to put up better performances.
If he can continue to improve and perform over the rest of the season, Onana’s critics will eventually stop looking down on him. Erik ten Hag has always vouched for the player and believes he will continue to imporve.
