Manchester United are doing all they can to beat Premier League rivals, Newcastle who are also in pursuit of an Italian star

As reported by Spanish publication Fichajes, Manchester United and Newcastle are both in the running to sign Italy international, Nicolo Barella. The 27-year-old is currently playing for Inter Milan.

Through 222 appearances for the Serie A side, Barella has recorded a total of 33 goals and 56 assists. His command over the midfield is a sight to behold. Moreover, having him at Old Trafford would be enough to end the team’s creative woes.

But, Inter Milan aren’t too keen on selling the player. The Serie A side is expected to extend Barella’s contract till 2028. If the Italian still decides to leave, it would cost a pretty penny to the Red Devils.

The Red Devils are in desperate need of a good midfielder on the team. Bruno Fernandes is often inconsistent and Mason Mount cannot be counted on to stay fit for the length of an entire season.

A lot of United’s troubles this season could be chalked up to the poor performance of their midfielders and attackers. So, it’s not surprising that the Red Devils are applying pressure on Milan for the signing of Barella.

Signing Barella can fix all of Manchester United’s issues in midfield, but Newcastle hold the same view. So, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team will have to move fast if they don’t wish to miss out.
