Manchester United will face Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter final at Old Trafford

Manchester United progressed into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup following a late 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. They will now hope to go one better and secure the trophy they missed out at the final hurdle last season.

The Red Devils had to dig deep on the night as 32-year-old Brazilian midfielder Casemiro’s goal in the 89th minute proved enough to push through to final eight. Nottingham caused us several problems, something a better opponent could taker total advantage of.

Manchester United will host Liverpool at Old Trafford

Manchester United were drawn against arch-rivals Liverpool in the last eight, the standout fixture of the upcoming round.

A young and injury depleted Liverpool squad won 3-0 against Southampton to progress into the final eight of the competition. While they are unlikely to welcome back all of their injured players for the trip to Old Trafford, Jurgen Klopp’s side are brimming with confidence and momentum.

Manchester United were due to host Sheffield United on Saturday, March 16. The Red Devils’ progression into the quarter finals means that fixtures will be rescheduled. The game should likely be rescheduled after the international break.

Erik ten Hag will be hoping to go all the way in FA Cup this season

Erik ten Hag’s reaction to the draw

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag was asked about drawing Liverpool in his post match press conference. He claimed the draw to be fantastic as per the club’s official website:

“Now we have Liverpool at home, it’s a fantastic draw, we are looking forward [to it]. But we have to bury the cup, and first we are looking forward to the league, and the first game is always the most important. It’s a good game, [against Man] City, and we are looking forward to that.”

United got the better of the Merseysiders at Old Trafford last season. Klopp’s men also struggled to break us down at Anfield in the Premier League as Erik ten Hag engineered a 0-0 draw. The Dutchman’s future at the club is far from certain but two wins over Liverpool in the coming months will certainly endear himself to the Red Devils faithful.

Despite our progress under Ten Hag, Liverpool and Manchester City are the teams to beat in the FA Cup. Should we come out on top against the latter, there should be enough confidence to suggest we could go all the way in the FA Cup this season.
