Manchester United struggle with injuries ahead of FA Cup clash vs Nottingham Forest
Following the loss against Fulham at the weekend in the Premier League, Manchester United will now face Nottingham Forest in the fifth-round tie of the FA Cup on Wednesday night. The Red Devils were losing finalists in the competition last season.
Erik ten Hag’s men will have revenge on their mind when they visit Nottingham Forest tonight. They suffered a 2-1 defeat against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side in the Premier League in December. Surely, it is now time for payback.
The Red Devils before the loss against Fulham at Old Trafford were in fine form. They put on a four game winning run on-the-trot to give hope that a top four finish might be possible.
Not only do we now have to live with the loss to Fulham but also contend with key players injured. Injury concerns have proven to be a massive problem for Manchester United this season. Rasmus Hojlund suffered an injury that will keep him out for two to three weeks. This proved to be a party spoiler as the Dane striker as in fine form before being sidelined.
Manchester United already have a long injury list. Luke Shaw is out yet again. while both Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia are sidelined with knee injuries. French striker Anthony Martial is on the bench with a groin injury while summer signing Mason Mount is nursing a calf problem.
Erik ten Hag has had consistent injury problems during the ongoing campaign.
More injury concerns ahead of Nottingham Forest game
To add to the injury vows, defender Harry Maguire will not participate in today’s FA Cup tie against Nottingham Forest. There is no disclosure by the club around his injury.
Bruno Fernandes is a doubt for tonight’s game as well. The Portuguese midfielder sustained a knock during Saturday’s Fulham defeat. Despite the knock Bruno continued to play through it until the final whistle.
Alongside Bruno, Raphael Varane is also doubtful as revealed by Erik ten Hag in his pre-match press conference (as relayed by Manchester Evening News)
“We have some question marks in our squad. Harry Maguire will not be available. Bruno is doubtful.
“Also Rapha Varane is doubtful. We have to watch and see what we will have and then pick a team, with the aim of course [of winning],” United’s gaffer speaking to club media.
