Manchester United might miss out on permanent transfer money from Sevilla
According to a report by Spanish publication Estadio Deporvito (h/t Manchester Evening News), Sevilla are currently not looking to activate the £17m buy option for Manchester United loanee, Hannibal Mejbri.
The Tunisian midfielder was amped up to be just as good of a signing as Mason Greenwood at Getafe. However, his life in Spain has been completely different from the English forward’s.
Mejbri has only featured twice and has been booked twice during his stint with Sevilla. Moreover, he was even benched from the team for two consecutive games despite being fit for duty.
Mejbri only went out on loan because he wasn’t getting enough playing time under Erik ten Hag. Unfortunately, his situation has not changed despite seeking a move away from the club.
This will surely hurt the Tunisian’s reputation as a player. People will soon begin to wonder whether he is as good as they have been led to believe.
It is now up to Hannibal to prove his critics wrong. The next time that Mejbri features for Sevilla, the 21-year-old has to be the point of difference or put on a positive display, at the very least.
The clock is ticking on Mejbri’s career, if he fails to impress during his time at Sevilla, Manchester United will have no reason to give him regular playing time when he returns during the summer.
