It is not breaking news that a number of Barcelona players constantly see themselves linked with an exit from the club because of the Catalan side’s constant financial troubles. Manchester United also see themselves linked with a move for two of United’s star players; Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen.

Araujo, easily one of the best central defenders in the world at the moment, appears to be ‘untouchable’ as per Fichajes. The 24-year-old centre-back, who can also feature as a right-back is one of the world’s most resolute defenders and him potentially joining Manchester United could change our fortunes for good.

However, he is too good of an asset for Barcelona to think of laying him off, let alone actually doing it. Keeping this in mind, Manchester United could pursue a move for his partner in central defence, Andreas Christensen. The 27-year-old centre-back moved to Catalunya from West London in 2022 and has been a strong presence in the backline for outgoing manager Xavi’s side.

Araujo or Christensen?

The Danish international brings a wealth of experience and defensive acumen to the table, making him an appealing option for United as they look to bolster their defensive ranks. His ability to read the game, excellent positioning, and composure on the ball align with the qualities sought after by top clubs, making him a viable target for the Red Devils.

For United, Christensen represents a viable alternative to Araujo, offering a blend of experience, defensive solidity, and technical proficiency. His ability to anticipate danger, marshal the backline, and initiate attacks from deep positions aligns with the modern demands of top-level football, making him an enticing prospect for clubs seeking defensive reinforcements.

While Araujo may remain out of reach due to Barcelona’s steadfast stance, Christensen presents a realistic and attainable option for Manchester United. The prospect of securing a player of Christensen’s calibre could provide United with a significant boost, addressing their defensive deficiencies and enhancing their prospects of success across various competitions.

Moreover, his past experience in the Premier League will allow him to adjust almost immediately without having to acclimatize himself to the requirements of the English top tier. Whether they succeed in landing Araujo or pivot towards acquiring Christensen, the Red Devils are poised to make a statement of intent as they seek to strengthen their squad and compete for honours on both domestic and potentially, European fronts.
