Manchester United will avoid getting into a bidding war with Arsenal for Premier League star
According to the Daily Star (h/t ESPN), Manchester United have no intentions of going after Arsenal target, Ivan Toney. The Red Devils were previously interested in the Brentford striker, however, the possibility of a bidding war has taken them away from the table.
Manchester United still might pounce if Toney is available at a fair price, but as things stand, the Bees want something in the neighbourhood of £100m. Sir Jim Ratcliffe will not be looking to spend more than £70m for a new striker.
The 27-year-old is all set to leave Brentford at the end of the season, however, Old Trafford’s gates will no longer be open for him. Erik ten Hag will now need to look elsewhere as he tries to bolster his offence for the 2024/25 season.
However, his priority should be the development of 21-year-old Rasmus Hojlund. the Danish striker has been on fire recently and Manchester United seem to do extremely well when that is the case.
If Ten Hag can help him reach his potential the team might not even need to sign a new striker during the summer. Through 28 appearances, Hojlund has scored 10 goals while recording two assists.
It’s almost scary to imagine what 21-year-old Hojlund will play like when he realises his potential. Now that Toney is no longer an option, the team should focus on improving their middle and defensive lines.

Manchester United lacks creativity and defensive intensity, improving upon these two areas will help the team way more than getting a new striker.
