Pundit has raised a concern that could put Celtic off the trail of Manchester United’s Scott McTominay
Celtic has been on the trail of Manchester United’s Scott McTominay since as far back as 2019. Now, that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has decided to offload players to raise money, the Bhoys might finally have a chance.
However, it is easier said than done. People have to remember that Celtic is a smaller club than the Red Devils, which means that their operating budget and wage bills are also largely different.
With this in mind, pundit Gordon Daziel has indicated that the one major hurdle that might stop Celtic’s approach for Scott McTominay is his wages.
While the club has been regularly linked with the Bhoys, they will likely be unable to make a move happen. McTominay has no reason to leave a prestigious club like Manchester United and play for a worse club on lower wages.
This deal doesn’t make sense from a financial point of view and that might be its demise. Moreover, there has recently been some talk about a contract extension for the Scottish midfielder.
It seems like Erik ten Hag is eager to lock Scott McTominay down on a long-term deal. If this happens, Celtic will lose all hope of signing the Old Trafford midfielder.

Erik ten Hag’s favourite midfielder might not be leaving the club any time soon. However, the same cannot be said for the Dutchman who has been enduring a disastrous campaign.
