Portuguese club make their transfer intentions clear by calling out Manchester United for links with star midfielder
Erik ten Hag and Manchester United have recently been linked to Joao Neves of Benfica. They have already done business with the club this season as both teams reached a loan deal for Spanish left-back Fernando Alvarez.
This made the Red Devils’ links to Joao Neves seem credible. However, that is not the case as Benfica outright denied all claims. They released a statement concerning the transfer talks for Joao Neves and mentioned the Old Trafford squad by name.
The Portuguese club stated that they are currently not negotiating with Manchester United or any other club nor do they intend to have a conversation regarding their 19-year-old midfielder.
19-year-old Joao Neves has been very impressive for Benfica this season. His eye for the ball and exceptional ability to provide cover for the defensive line is something that all clubs wish to have.
He has made 29 appearances for the team this season and has even helped them to a win in the Portuguese Super Cup. However, all doors leading to Old Trafford seem to shut at the moment.
Benfica has already made it clear that they do not intend to sell Neves, especially to Manchester United who they namedropped in their statement. This rules out any possibility of a winter transfer.
