Roy Keane sheds light on the rare team talk he used to give during his days with Manchester United
While speaking to Sky Sports, Roy Keane shed some light on what he would tell his teammates during his time at Manchester United. The Irish midfielder was an integral part of the Red Devils during his time at Old Trafford.
Throughout his career, Roy Keane made 478 appearances for Manchester United. Over this stretch, he scored 51 goals and recorded 38 assists for the team. His stats make people wonder why he criticizes players the way that he does when his numbers look like this.
But it is important to remember that Keane usually played as a defensive midfielder and wasn’t often involved with the attack. He said the coach at Manchester United trusted the players to amp themselves up and left it up to them.
He went on to say that the Manchester United dressing room was a great place to be. When asked about him giving a talk to the team, Keane said that it was very rare for him to speak, but this is what he said when he did speak. (h/t Sky Sports)
“Just remeber who we are lads, we’re Man United”
Keane went on to say that he only said this to his team once or twice a year. The players all trusted each other and there was never any need to ramp each other up ahead of the games.
The current Manchester United could surely use some of the mental fortitude of Keane’s team. We have seen Erik ten Hag’s squad just fall apart after conceding so something is missing in the current Manchester United locker room.
