Sky Sports pundits Roy Keane and Jamie Redknapp chastised Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford for his goal celebration
Sky Sports pundits Roy Keane and Jamie Redknapp slammed Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford for his goal celebration. United legend Keane and former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp agreed upon Rashford’s celebration being distasteful and pointless, given his inconsistencies.
The Red Devils played Tottenham Hotspur to a 2-2 draw in the Premier League clash at Old Trafford. They took an early lead through Rasmus Hojlund in the third minute, but Richarlison cancelled it in the 19th minute.
Rashford scored a clinical finish in the 40th minute of the game to provide another lead to the hosts. However, Spurs dominated in the second half and scored an early 46th-minute goal to equalise.
After the goal, Rashford celebrated by making a hand gesture towards the crowd, mocking his critics for talking too much. The “yap yap” celebration, known for mocking critics, faced backlash due to Marcus Rashford’s poor form this season.
The 26-year-old has made 26 appearances, contributing with four goals and six assists in all competitions. Last season, fans and media praised Rashford for finally living up to his huge potential for his productivity. He scored 30 goals and provided 11 assists from 56 matches, leading United to a Carabao Cup win.
Speaking on Sky Sports (h/t @SkySportsPL/X), former United captain, Keane criticized Rashford’s celebration despite justified criticism about his inconsistencies. He said:
“We need to see more of this [Rashford’s overall performance], because he’s shown it before, he’s got the quality. Why does he seem to be upset with everybody? He simplified his game [today]. He’s obviously been told by his manager, the coaching staff that when we are in possession, in space, you’ve got to run in this game.”
Redknapp agreed with Keane and criticized Rashford after learning that goal was his first at Old Trafford since May 2023. He added:
“He’s got no right to be upset, he’s not done the business!’ That’s not good enough! With his talent, what he can do to people – twist them up – that’s what he should be doing”
Rashford has played nine seasons for the Red Devils’ senior team since earning a promotion from the prestigious Academy. Despite his talents, the 26-year-old has struggled with inconsistencies and frequent fluctuations in form, making him unreliable as a forward.
The England international has faced criticism for his selfish style of play and one-dimensional moves which makes him predictable. Despite his talents, he prefers to rely too much on cutting inside and shooting from the left than providing assists.

Keane and Redknapp made a very valid point about Rashford and the inconsistency that has kept him from reaching greatness. The 26-year-old is currently playing in the peak year of his career and needs to put in consistent performances. Rashford has a long way to go before he can truly shut his critics down and prove them wrong.
