Manchester United wants to sign Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy to bolster their defence during the summer
Manchester United are planning to sign Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy to bolster their defence for the next season. The Red Devils have recently triggered a break clause to send Sergio Reguilon back to Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite the injury to Luke Shaw and the continuous absence of Tyrell Malacia, United decided to send Reguilon back. The Red Devils are already out of European competition and the Carabao Cup, dropping the number of upcoming fixtures.
United have deployed Diogo Dalot over Reguilon at times despite playing Shaw as a centre-back in a few games. However, they need to bolster their defence before the next season begins to avoid a repeat of this season’s struggles.
The Red Devils are currently eighth in the Premier League table, nine points behind fourth-placed Arsenal. They are chasing the top four position to qualify for the next season’s Champions League.
Fichajes reported that United are among the top clubs that are planning to swoop in for Mendy during the summer. The 28-year-old has made 147 appearances for Madrid so far, contributing with five goals and 10 assists.
Mendy is a modern-day attacking fullback, eager to contribute to the attacking build-up for his team in possession. Nevertheless, he uses his positioning and stays aware to fulfill his defensive duties and keep the left flank secured.
The 28-year-old has the speed, strength and stamina to keep up with the pace at the top-most European leagues. He possesses good technique and distribution to find his teammates and use them to link up, creating spaces.
The France international is a fantastic dribbler on the ball and makes overlapping runs down the byline whenever he can. Zinedine Zidane spent a considerable sum to sign him due to Mendy’s all-round abilities.
