Manchester United suffer transfer window blow as Barcelona director says no player will be sold in January

Manchester United who were in hot pursuit of Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong have suffered a big transfer blow. The Catalan club’s director has said that no players will be sold in January.

The Dutch midfielder was highly sought after due to his excellent passing ability. The Red Devils came close to signing a deal for De Jong last year but negotiations with Barcelona ultimately came to a halt.

The team was anyway not looking to spend big this winter. Their priority was to offload some players on their roster before heading out for new talent. Regardless of that, losing out on a talent like Frenkie has got to hurt.

Let’s have a look at what FC Barcelona Director Deco had to say about the whole situation. (h\t The Sun)

“No player is going to leave in January.”

It looks like all doors leading out of Barcelona are shut off for the Catalan players this winter. Deco’s statement will likely result in Manchester United completely pulling out of the race to sign the Dutch midfielder.

It is now time for the team to pursue a different lead. A deal regarding Jadon Sancho is expected to be completed soon, according to Fabrizio Romano. Borussia Dortmund have worked out an arrangement to bring their former attacker back to Germany.

Hopefully, the Red Devils will make good use of the money from the Sancho deal. There has also been talk about a deal for Giorgio Scalvini being in the works. This would be a smart move for the team as the defense this season has been lacking.
