Manchester United’s decision to extend the contract of two experienced defenders has Gary Neville ‘worried’
Gary Neville has only had the best interests in mind for his forever club Manchester United. Even as a player, he spent the entirety of his professional career playing for the Old Trafford crowd.
He speaks from a place of care when he says the club’s decision has him ‘worried’. It seems like the former midfielder is not too hot on Manchester United’s decision to extend Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varnae.
The club has already opted to extend Lindelof and will soon be sitting down with the Frenchman to discuss terms for a new contract. It seems like Manchester United want Varane to take a pay cut and continue for the team.
However, Manchester United need to realise that Varane is their best defender at the moment. Refusing to extend his contract means that the player can now negotiate with other teams for a move during the summer.
Let’s have a look at what Neville had to say about the entire ordeal. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
“If United are looking to renew Lindelof and Varane (on reduced terms) I’m worried. We have to start afresh as much as possible.”
From the looks of it, the former Manchester United star isn’t worried about the players leaving. He is instead worried that the team isn’t looking to start from scratch.
According to his words, one could deduce that what Neville wants most is to get rid of the old and bring in the new. Consequently, Manchester United are looking to roll in and grab Giorgio Scalvini. Gary Neville will be happy about this development, to say the least.
