Manchester United overtake Real Madrid in race to sign upcoming Serie A star; release clause set at £43.5m

Manchester United have been linked with £250m-rated Real Madrid superstar.

Manchester United have pulled ahead of Real Madrid as the two teams race for £43.5m Serie A star.

According to a report from Spanish publication El Nacional, Manchester United have pulled ahead of Real Madrid in the race for Serie A star Giorgio Scalvini. The Red Devils are reportedly ready to pay £43.5m to trigger the centre-back’s release clause.

This has to be the first serious move that the Old Trafford squad has made towards bringing in new talent this January. They have been linked with young Scalvini along with other Serie A stars like Radu Dragusin.

The Romanian defender is reportedly close to signing a deal with Tottenham as Ange Postecoglou has been in hot pursuit. With this in mind, Erik Ten Hag is now looking to bring in the Atlanta BC centre-back.

This news comes shortly after it was announced that the club will not be extending Raphael Varane’s contract. They have said that the Frenchman will be offered a new contract with reduced wages.

However, the signing of Scalvini makes it look like Manchester United are prepared to lose Varane. Real Madrid who are also behind the Serie A star have also expressed interest in Manchester United’s star defender.

The 30-year-old could leave to join his former club again if they are unable to sign the Serie A star. It is becoming more and more likely that both Scalvini and Raphael Varane will be wearing new jerseys by the end of January.
