Liverpool superstar Virgl van Dijk responds to Manchester United icon Roy Keane after he asked him to keep his ‘arrogance’ in check
Tempers were flaring following the draw between Manchester United and Liverpool and Reds skipperVirgil van Dijk was particularly unhappy about the result. He believes the Reds should have easily put away a team like Manchester United.
A statement that did not sit well with Roy Keane. The former Manchester United player then went on to tell Van Dijk to keep his ‘arrogance’ in check. He also proceeded to remind the player that his club has only won one title in 30-odd years.
Van Dijk was taken aback by the comments made by the former Manchester United player. He was quick to resolve the situation, even mentioning that he likes Roy Keane
Let’s have a look at what Virgil van Dijk had to say as he went on to address the situation. (h/t The Guardian)
“He [Keane] is Man United throughout and I understand he could react like that but I felt what I said and there is absolutely no arrogance in that. Everyone who watched the game probably felt the same. We move on. We had the opportunity and we couldn’t score and that’s the frustrating part.”
Van Dijk’s words have some truth to them. Manchester United did not look like a team that could beat Liverpool. They barely looked like one that could survive against the Reds.
Many fans were waiting for one of the Liverpool player’s shots to sneak in. But that never happened, and as frustrating as it might be, the result was a 0-0 draw.
Despite their best efforts neither Mo Salah nor Trent Alexander-Arnold managed to find the back of the net. Instead of being frustrated fans should be appreciative of the stellar job that Manchester United’s defence put together.
