2 positives to draw from and 2 negatives to improve upon from Manchester United’s hard-fought draw against Liverpool
Sunday’s game against Liverpool has surely made a lot of Manchester United fans happy. The Old Trafford squad was in enemy territory going up against a heavily favoured team and did not succumb.
It had been quite some time since we had seen Manchester United stand up to adversity and play a decent game. But, the team prevailed and held the Reds to a draw at Anfield.
It is a positive showing considering the horrific month that the Red Devils have had. Sunday’s match has now given the team a roadmap which they can use to improve their performance for the rest of the season.
There were plenty of good moments to note and even more bad ones that Ten Hag’s men can learn from.
Speaking of the good ones the 2 things that Manchester seem to have figured out this past week are their defence and their goalkeeper troubles. Onana’s masterclass was a comforting sight for fans and teammates alike.
Moreover, an excellent defensive showing from Raphael Varane will provide a good morale boost to the defensive line. Varane showed his class as a defender by winning 100% of his duels during the game (fot.mob).
Despite the excellent showing from Andre Onana and Varane, both Ten Hag’s middle line and the attacking line were struggling to make an impact.
When a counter-attack allowed them to get a decent shot at goal, Rasmus Hojlund squandered the opportunity as he fired straight at Alisson Becker.

Both Alejandro Garnacho and Hojlund stuck out like sore thumbs on Sunday. The 20-year-old striker tenses up when faced with the goal something that deeply affects his quality as a forward.
Garnacho looked out of place on the left wing and struggled to make an impact on the game. He failed to make any crosses into the box and took two awkward shots that weren’t even close to going in.
If the team is truly serious about making a run for a top 4 finish then Ten Hag quickly needs to figure out what’s troubling his forwards.
