Man United coach Ten Hag comes under criticism after former Aston Villa manager questions the Dutchman’s Hannibal Mejbri decision
Former Aston Villa coach Tim Sherwood was livid with Ten Hag as he questioned his squad selection at Man United. He was particularly upset over the Dutchman’s decision to exclude Hannibal Mejbri from the team.
Mejbri has displayed immense potential during his run with Man United’s U21 team. However, despite possessing the makings of a world-class midfielder, Ten Hag has not even excluded the player in the Red Devils’ last 3 fixtures.
The Dutchman has already been having a tough time as chief this season. Now, with Tim Sherwood chipping in. Ten Hag must reply with action and performance on the field.
Let’s have a look at what the former Tottenham coach had to say about Erik ten Hag on Sky Sports (h/t Metro).
“Keep your mouth shut, work on the training pitch and get them players to perform for that badge. At the moment they’re not.I scratch my head when I look at the boy Hannibal [Mejbri]. A couple of months ago, he got back in the team, was outstanding and left out as soon as a “superstar”, like [Sofyan] Amrabat or whoever, became fit.”
Sherwood is clearly upset with Ten Hag’s squad selection. Moreover, while he acknowledged the fact that the team has had limited options due to injuries, he believes that it is no excuse since every team in the Premier League has them.
This is a statement that is only half true. It’s like saying Manchester United have a shot while most of Ten Hag’s key pieces are sidelined with injuries.
While injuries are undeniably a part of the game, their frequency and seriousness can have massive repercussions for teams. We have seen the setbacks that Postecoglou and his Lilywhites have had to face due to injuries.
Tim Sherwood was also upset at Ten Hag’s decision to try and sell team leaders Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire last season.
