Mikael Silvestre advises Manchester United against signing Bundesliga striker as Ten Hag looks to bolster his attack
According to The Sun, Manchester United had previously inquired about Serhou Guirassy as Ten Hag scrambles to add more attacking power to his lineup. The 18-goal striker has reached that threshold in just 14 appearances for his team. (Transfermarkt).
However, in a rather shocking turn of events former Arsenal star Mikael Silvestre has advised Ten Hag and his team to steer clear of the Bundesliga star.
Now that a striker as good as Guirassy is on the block all the big names are out to snatch him. But, why is it that despite his cheap price of just £17m Silvestre believes the Guinea national will not be a good fit for the team?
It could be that after playing in a less competitive league Silvestre believes the striker will have a hard time adjusting to the Premier League. Let’s have a look at what the former Gunners star had to say (h/t Manchester Evening News).
“No, I don’t think Guirassy has the level to play for United, so I would go elsewhere in terms of a striker. I think Hojlund will succeed at United, he just needs a bit more time. The dynamic of the team right now is not great but I believe he can succeed.”
While it is true that Rasmus Hojlund still has room to grow, Ten Hag cannot afford to wait for his development.
The Red Devils should be doing everything in their power to bolster their team’s attacking line. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have been abysmal this season and continue to struggle despite the team’s need for an infallible goalscorer.
The contributions of Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes, and Hojlund are the only reason behind Ten Hag’s floating ship. Consequently, if the three of them slip up or get injured there is no telling how far behind Manchester United will fall.

While Silvestre’s argument isn’t baseless, The Red Devils cannot afford to be dormant this January. Moreover, The team is in desperate need of more talent that they can count on.
Manchester United should be pushing towards getting new talent for the team. With their entire campaign on the brink of collapse, now is not the time to be heeding the advice of football pundits.
