Manchester United legend Roy Keane berates the poor mentality and work ethic of Marcus Rashford as his bad form continues

Manchester United legend Roy Keane chastised Marcus Rashford for his poor work ethic and bad temperament, making him inconsistent. The former United captain highlighted Rashford’s personality and “mood swings”, making the forward unreliable despite his immeasurable talents.

Rashford played like a player finally living up to his talent last season under the new manager Erik ten Hag. The 26-year-old ended the season as the leading goal scorer for United, earning a new lucrative contract during the summer.

However, the England international has failed to take his last season’s form into the current season. Rashford has struggled to contribute in front of goals as his overall performance received scrutiny from the fans and pundits.

Rashford is currently playing his ninth season at the club since earning the promotion from the United academy. The England international has faced a similar struggle with inconsistencies and poor work ethic with experts speculating the reasons.

Speaking on Stick To Football podcast (h/t Manchester Evening News), Keane ridiculed the inconsistent performances and poor mentality of Rashford. He said:

“I’m not sure about Marcus [Rashford]. The whole package – personality, his mood swings. He’s a talented player, but if you’re not going to work hard, and he’s having these dips every now and again, there’s all this talk about his confidence, off the field stuff. Just turn up every week and do the business.”

Rashford is playing in the peak years of his career with patience running out at the club. The 26-year-old received criticism for his selfishness and poor defensive contribution, regularly failing to track back opposition fullbacks.

The England international tends to cut inside which has made it predictable for the opponents to read his moves. Many fans and experts want him to use the byline more often and provide assistance to other attacking teammates.

Rashford needs to take all the criticism constructively and follow in the footsteps of Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay. The United duo worked their way back into Ten Hag’s good grace and they are currently the team’s best performers.
