Football pundit Alan Shearer has called Manchester United players “bad eggs” after their humiliating loss against Newcastle United

Football legend Alan Shearer castigated Manchester United players for having a “really bad attitude” after their loss against Newcastle United. United lost 1-0 to Newcastle at St James Park after the host dominated the game from the start.

The Red Devils have lost 10 games in all competitions this season as their struggle with consistency continued. However, United players faced further scrutiny as the injury-ridden Newcastle side faced no retaliation from the visitors.

The Red Devils’ players looked defeated, annoyed and devoid of conviction as the Magpies kept 59% of the possession. Most of the possessional play from Newcastle happened within United’s half as the host kept their waves of attacks.

Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast (h/t Mirror), Shearer ripped into the poor attitude of some United players. He said:

“When it’s tough and when it’s hard, you see the players who want to play for you and you see the players who want to support you as a manager and as a fan. And I thought there were three or four players who were not prepared to roll their sleeves up and gave up far too easily and didn’t want to fight. For me, there are too many bad eggs in that Man United team. Too many bad attitudes.”

Newcastle took 22 shots with four hitting the target compared to United’s eight with a mere one hitting the target. The match involved an incident when manager Erik ten Hag lost his composure and had an argument with Anthony Martial.

Martial failed to put pressure on Newcastle’s centre-back Fabian Schar as he drove forward and opened up United’s midfield easily. The moment summed up the Red Devil’s biggest issue, the lack of work ethic from many senior players.

Many fans and pundits have criticized Martial, Antony and Marcus Rashford for failing to track back and put in effort. The forward department has struggled to contribute consistently in front of the goal but failing to work hard is unacceptable.

Ex-United captain Roy Keane criticized current captain Bruno Fernandes for his visible antics and inability to inspire the team. The 29-year-old struggled to impose his will in the game and dictate the tempo as his team kept losing possession.

United need to shrug off the humiliating loss and focus on their next game as they need to build momentum. The Red Devils are currently seventh in the Premier League as they chase a top-four finish the the Premier League.
