Alvaro Fernandez confirms that he could return to Manchester United this winter
Manchester United starlet Alvaro Fernandez, currently on loan at Spanish side Granada, has confirmed that he could return to Old Trafford this winter.
The 20-year-old who moved to United from Real Madrid in 2020 is yet to make his senior bow for the Red Devils. He has so far spent time in the club’s youth ranks while also enjoying a previous loan spell at Preston North End.
The left-back continues to impress at Granada this season and harbours ambitions of yet making it at the Theatre of Dreams. But that will have to wait as the Spaniard remains keen to help his current side. 19th placed Granada are three points off safety and will need all the help they can to stave off relegation from the La Liga.
Fernandez joined the La Liga side on a season long loan earlier this year. However, the agreement does give United the option to recall the player this winter should they choose to.
Erik ten Hag could certainly do with a left-back given Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia’s injuries. The former recently returned to action while the latter is now set for a longer spell on the sidelines. While the likes of Sergio Reguilon do offer options, Ten Hag could do with some depth in the role.
Speaking on COPE (h/t Manchester Evening News), Fernandez confirmed the clause in his loan deal that could see United recall him. But as things stand, there is little noise in that direction and the player remains keen to thrive at Granada.
“In football, I think you can’t make long term plans. I know that this year I’m here, well, United have the option of taking me back at Christmas but now it’s my commitment to help this team.”
