Manchester United target Benfica player Antonio Silva as the priority signing in the upcoming transfer window
According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg’s recent tweet on X, Manchester United continue to keep Antonio Silva of Benfica as their top target in the upcoming transfer window.
However, Benfica believe that Silva will remain with them till the end of this season unless some other club activates his buyout clause during the transfer window which takes place in January.
His release contract in 2024 is estimated at €100 million which appears very high considering Manchester United’s financially troubled state. However, if the club decides to offload some players and with the potential investment from Sir Jim Ratcliffe, they might just be able to gather the necessary resources to make it happen.
The Portuguese giants lost Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea in the previous January transfer window. Silva is currently regarded as one of Europe’s most promising defenders, making him an appealing addition to Manchester United’s roster.
While Benfica leads the Portuguese league, their Champions League form has mirrored that of United. Another domestic title under Silva’s leadership could further enhance his reputation.
Manchester United’s spending capacity in January remains uncertain. Reports suggest that the club’s January transfers may be limited to more budget-friendly deals or loans due to financial fair play restrictions. Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s recent purchase of a 25 per cent stake in the club has further complicated the situation.
