Manchester United star Luke Shaw returns to training following three months on the sidelines

English international Luke Shaw is the first-choice left-back at Manchester United and has shown hints of getting back to his best under Erik ten Hag.

The 28-year-old’s time at Old Trafford has been fraught with injuries and inconsistency, more or less limiting his impact as a Red Devil. He has so far played just two games for us this season, before spending three months out thanks to an injury sustained in August.

With his understudy Tyrell Malacia also nursing a knee injury, Erik ten Hag has had to make do with alternatives to fulfill the left-back’s role. Tottenham Hotspur loanee Sergio Reguilon is the go to man but Diogo Dolot and even Sofyan Amrabat have been used as emergency stand-ins as the Red Devils aim to rectify a poor start to the 2023-24 campaign.

With several players, especially in the defence struggling with fitness, Manchester United have been handed some good news ahead of their trip to Everton this weekend. According to the BBC, Shaw is now back in training and could return to action once he builds up his match fitness.

While it is debatable if he will be directly thrust into the playing XI against Everton, it might not come as a surprise should he find a spot on the bench, even if it is admittedly premature. With more than half of the campaign still to play, Ten Hag is best advised to aid Shaw in getting back to full fitness before deploying him in matches.

A solid defender who is also good getting forward, Shaw has been one of the players to rediscover his best form under Erik ten Hag. The 28-year-old has also donned the role of a centre back when needed, displaying both his competency and versatility in the backline.

The sooner he rediscovers that mojo, the better. Man United have several must win games coming up and the return of their best players will aid the morale in the dressing room.
