PSG have made it a habit of signing the best French players in recent times and that number is only likely to increase should Manchester United star Anthony Martial join their ranks.

The Red Devils was highly touted as a potential world beater when he moved to Old Trafford from AS Monaco in 2015 and most of the tipped Martial to be the next big thing. However, despite a solid start to life at the Theatre of Dreams, Martial’s career has not reached it’s expected levels.

It is unfortunate that the Ballon d’Or has no category for injuries as the 27-year-old would have been a shoo-in for such an ‘award’. He has missed 79 games due to injury as a United player, while also struggling with consistency.

There appears to be the lack of an opportunity at redemption as according to TEAMTalk (h/t Fichajes), Paris Saint-Germain could swoop for him in the summer.

Martial’s current deal at Old Trafford expires in the summer of 2024. While the Red Devils retain the option of extending it by another season, it remains to be seen if they will do so.

The Frenchman has fallen down the pecking order and is far rom assured regular playtime under Erik ten Hag. The arrival of Rasmus Hojlund more or less could prove to the final nail in Martials’s spell as a Red Devils ace.

Paris Saint-Germain are not the only side keen on the Frenchman. At 27, he still has plenty of years left and could reinvent himself at the right club and manager. Unfortunately, there is little evidence that any of it will come at the Theatre of Dreams.

Extending his contract until 2025 will help United recoup what they can for a player they went big on eight years ago. However, given his massive wages, it will not come as a surprise should the club just decide to cut their losses and part ways in the summer.

Potentially losing Martial for free is something that was unfathomable just a couple of seasons ago. But even the Frenchman’s biggest fans will admit that his spell at the club has fallen far below expectations. Whether it is on a free or for a price, Martial appears likely to continue his career elsewhere.
