Former Chelsea icon Joe Cole offered his help to Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho as his banishment continues.
Former Premier League player Joe Cole volunteered his help to Manchester United star Jadon Sancho as his banishment continues. Sancho last featured for the Red Devils as a substitute in the 3-2 victory against Nottingham Forest in August.
United manager Erik ten Hag excluded the 23-year-old from Arsenal’s matchday squad in the 3-1 loss at Emirates. The United boss publicly questioned Sancho’s performances in training to which the Englishman retaliated immediately with a social media post. Sancho accused the Dutchman for using him as a scapegoat and defended his work ethics in the training ground.
United banned the England international from using any first team facility as the consequences of his public disobedience. Sancho’s future remains uncertain at United as the January transfer window approaches.
Cole told TNT Sports (h/t Metro) that Sancho is a fantastic player but he needs better guidance and nurturing. He said:
“Jadon Sancho needs nurturing. Jadon is a fantastic footballer particularly with the talent and quality he’s got, but he needs a little bit of nurturing and he might need a bit more maturity. I would love to speak to him and his people and try to help. If I was a young coach I would take Jadon Sancho and fancy I could get the best out of him.”
United signed Sancho for £73m from Borussia Dortmund during the summer of 2021. The England international saw a steep rise to his reputation for his consistent performances at the German club.
The 23-year-old made 137 appearances for Dortmund while contributing with 50 goals and 64 assists. However, he failed to live up to his potential at United with 12 goals and six assists in 82 appearances.
The Englishman suffered from both mental and physical issues during his time with the Red Devils. The United boss gave Sancho three months break away from football spotlight to rejuvenate his mental health.
However, the Dutchman opted to disclose the private information about Sancho’s mental health during a press interview last season. Ten Hag faced justifiable criticism for publicly disclosing information about Sancho’s mental health, as he had no clearance to do so.

The public spat between Ten Hag and Sancho has reached an “impasse” with the 23-year-old refusing to apologize. We think the most mutually beneficial decision for all parties would be a smooth sale of Sancho. The England international need to play game on the highest level at a place where he can enjoy his game.
Whereas, The United boss need to maintain his focus on resurrecting United’s season that is facing serious scrutiny. United have lost eight out of 16 matches in all competitions as they face FC Copenhagen in Champions League fixture.
