Manchester United are interested in Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni despite Real Madrid joining the race
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Manchester United are interested in 24-year-old Italian defender Alessandro Bastoni despite Real Madrid also in talks to sign him.
Bastoni’s signature would undoubtedly be a statement for what is to come, but Erik ten Hag can anticipate it to be a difficult task to persuade one of Europe’s best players to join given the reconstruction process our club is facing.
Bastoni had maintained his stellar levels from the previous year. Last season, the Italian central defender helped the Nerazzurri win the Coppa Italia trophy by being one of the most instrumental pieces in the team.
On the other hand, Florentino Perez might want to add another center-back option, thus Real Madrid are also shopping. Prior to the summer window, Madrid were also considering Bastoni but the move never materialized.
They may renew their interest in signing the 24-year-old to strengthen their backline in the summer. He may be seen by Perez as David Alaba’s long-term replacement, but they may also work together in a particular system.
Since moving to Manchester, Erik ten Hag has favoured the combination of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez. Last season, the two World Cup winners had performed admirably for the Red Devils, but this season they both have been victims of injuries, and this paves way for Bastoni to join the team.
Bastoni would be a great addition to the team and, at 24, he might end up being a valuable long-term player for the Red Devils. It is unclear whether Ten Hag has other transfer targets in mind or if he will press for Bastoni’s signature in the upcoming weeks.

With Bastoni, Inter Milan currently has the upper hand and will undoubtedly try to retain him in the long run. The player, though, might have other plans and try to sign with a bigger team that is interested in his skills. We hope that he chooses us over any other club.
