Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has his say after their late win against Brentford at home
Speaking in an interview as quoted by the Mirror, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, believes that the criticism of the team has not been justified. They had their worst start to a season in 37 years going into the Brentford game.
After a dismal run of results, Manchester United defeated Brentford in the most dramatic of ways to give Erik ten Hag some breathing space. This victory was a much-needed one to ensure the squad’s confidence as the international break begins.
Bruno told ViaPlay (h/t Mirror) after the game that:
“This is Manchester United. Even if you win 10 games in a row and lose one, it’s a crisis straight away. We are not having the results and points we want to have but it’s about getting the focus back after the international break.”
Bruno’s post-game attitude says it all. After the game, what he stated makes a lot of sense. A squad like United must prevail in every contest. A win like this was necessary because United have lost both of its Champions League games and are currently sitting in 10th place in the Premier League.
Raphael Varane and Hannibal Mejbri were replaced for the Brentford match by Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans, respectively. In spite of the substitutions, United trailed 1-0 at the break when Onana deflected Jensen’s long shot into the bottom corner.
When Kristoffer Ajer couldn’t clear the lines, McTominay controlled the ball and shot low into the bottom corner, changing everything. A few minutes later, after Maguire’s flick-on, he ensured the victory.

We think Bruno might be hoping that the thrilling late winner can give the Red Devils some impetus. Six of United’s 11 games this season in all competitions have ended in losses. In order to succeed this season, the United captain must inspire his players and make them better. For that, he needs to start walking the talk on the pitch. Let’s hope he does.
