A dramatic double from Scott McTominay gives Manchester United a memorable victory Against Brentford.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag instructed Scott McTominay to “go on and score” before his game-winning cameo against Brentford.
United defeated Brentford 2-1 at Old Trafford in the Premier League showdown on Saturday. The Red Devils were chasing the Bees after going down in the 21st minute of the game.
McTominay came on for Sofyan Amrabat in the 87th minute and saved United from a third consecutive loss. The Scottish international scored two goals in the 93rd and 97th minute to give the Red Devils a memorable victory.
The 26-year-old man of the match talked to the media (h/t BBC) after his heroic cameo for the Red Devils. McTominay joked about the noise during his substitution that almost made him miss his instruction from the United manager. He said:
“It was very loud, the fans were roaring us on so I couldn’t hear fully. He probably said something like: ‘Go on and score,’ which is what I did.”
The Red Devils have struggled with consistency this season while showing vulnerability in various areas within the team. The dramatic victory against Brentford would hopefully act as a catalyst for Ten Hag’s team to build momentum.
United added Mason Mount and Amrabat to upgrade the midfield this season. Additionally, Hannibal Mejbri’s rise from the Red Devils’ Academy saw McTominay fall down the pecking order at the club.
Fichajes reported that the Red Devils were looking to offload the Scottish midfielder during the upcoming transfer window. Financial fair play (FFP) rules have restricted the Red Devils, compelling them to implement a new transfer strategy. The Manchester giant have to offload players who aren’t pivotal to Ten Hag’s plan to fund for required signings.
