David Beckham explains how Manchester United defender Harry Maguire can improve despite the criticism
According to Manchester Evening News, Harry Maguire has been instructed by Manchester United legend David Beckham to ignore the criticism directed at him and concentrate on playing football.
Harry Maguire has been out of form for quite some time now and has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford. The 30-year-old has received insults on social media and in stadiums which is very sad for any player.
Before the start of this season, Erik ten Hag relieved him of United captaincy, and Maguire has struggled to get playing time under the Dutchman. Despite facing an uncertain future at the club, he has kept his spot in Gareth Southgate’s England lineup.
Beckham is a player who has seen enough and more in his career. Criticism about his game, he might not have seen that much like Maguire is but he has been involved in his few share of controversial incidents.
Speaking to Stick to Football Podcast, the Manchester United legend said:
“The criticism of Harry Maguire has gone too far. Harry has to keep doing what he’s doing. He’s got to focus on football, which he does. He’s a good lad – he’s had a great career. Has the criticism got too much? I think it has.”
It is very important for players to get game time in order to gain confidence on the pitch. In the absence of the injured Lisandro Martinez and considering the dodgy fitness levels of Raphael Varane, Maguire might get a chance to resurrect his career.
Maguire at Man United has always flattered to deceive. United without Maguire have not gotten any better either so we really don’t know right now who the problem is.
