Manchester United are keeping an eye on Blackburn Rovers midfielder Adam Wharton
According to TEAMtalk (h/t BBC Sport), English giants Manchester United have joined the race to sign Blackburn Rovers star Adam Wharton.
The talented midfielder’s emergence in the Championship side’s first team has garnered huge attention this year. Manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has given young players opportunities to showcase their abilities.
Despite the 19-year-old’s efforts in helping Blackburn reach the Premier League, Wharton’s future at the club seems uncertain, with numerous top-flight teams expressing interest in him recently.
It has now been stated that Man United have been closely monitoring the English star’s performances in recent weeks and have been impressed by his displays.
However, they will face tough competition since Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping an eye on the club.
Wharton is having a standout season, featuring in nine games for Blackburn this season. He mainly plays as a defensive midfielder, but he can also play further up the field if needed.
The player is under contract with the Riversiders until 2027, and the possibility of a January transfer is not ruled out, depending on his parent club’s position in the Championship at that time.
If the midfielder continues to perform at his current level, Blackburn will be in a good position to demand a higher fee.
Currently, Wharton has the opportunity to play on Tomasson’s first team. If he continues to have regular starting opportunities at Ewood Park in the upcoming months, it would be wise for him to stay with the club.
While the opportunity to Man United may be enticing, it’s likely that he won’t receive as much playing time with their first team in the short term.
The Red Devils already have a number of midfielders in the squad, and with the recent addition of Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat, they are well-stocked in that area. Hannibal Mejbri is also waiting for his turn in the starting XI.

At this stage of his career, it’s crucial for Wharton to accumulate as much senior game time as possible. This will provide him with the best chance to realise his full potential.
In our opinion, the Englishman should develop himself further at his current place and then make a decision to move to an elite club in the future.
