Sergio Reguilon’s performance so far has impressed Erik ten Hag at Manchester United
On the final day of the transfer window, Reguilon agreed to a season-long loan agreement with United after being considered in the closing days of the window as an urgent solution to cover the gap as a left-back.
The Tottenham Hotspur player, on loan at United, has filled in well for the injured Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. According to The Mirror, Erik ten Hag said after the win against Burnley at Turf Moor this weekend:
“Reguilon was ill. That tells something about character and spirit they want to show. He was ill but wanted to play, wanted to support and contribute for the team.’
United’s long-awaited away victory, which came at Turf Moor, saw Sergio Reguilon playing for 79 minutes. Given United’s lack of defensive options, the Spaniard insisted on playing despite being sick.
The Tottenham loanee has excelled despite two terrible results and two equally disappointing performances overall. He was undoubtedly United’s one of the finest players against the electrifying Leroy Sane at the Allianz Arena in midweek.
Ten Hag has lauded his new teammate’s aptitude for making an immediate impact. Over the course of his time at Tottenham, Reguilon became less efficient, appearing more and more cut off from aggressive play and entering the final third less frequently.
His Conte-coached 2021–22 season was cut short by a groin injury in April 2022, and he was declared surplus to requirements the following season. In a slow season with Atletico Madrid, he seldom made an appearance.
He graduated from Real Madrid, and we have observed over the years the goods they have provided to our team. It’s kind of a big issue that they have only 3 assists in La Liga and Champions League combined, considering how difficult it was for any player to get a starting spot for Madrid during the 2018–19 season.
