Manchester United star Rasmus Hojlund has earned great praise from Gary Linekar
According to Manchester Evening News, after previously speculating that Rasmus Hojlund could find it difficult to make an impact during his debut season with Manchester United, Gary Lineker now acknowledges that he has been impressed.
After letting Cristiano Ronaldo leave in the middle of the season, United took their time choosing a replacement for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
On the Rest Is Football podcast, Linekar commented after watching the match against Bayern Munich:
“I’ve watched him in the first two or three games that he’s played. He’s only scored one goal so far – and that was in Europe – but he looks to me like he will score goals. I like his movement.”
Initially, Harry Kane was considered to be the main target, but United decided against it and instead purchased Hojlund from Italian team Atalanta for £72 million.
Although Lineker gave Hojlund high praise, he wasn’t originally persuaded that Hojlund would make a difference for United this season despite being one of England’s best goal-scorers in history.
Although the 62-year-old MOTD host acknowledged he hadn’t seen much of the former Atlantean front-man prior to his bombshell move to the Premier League, Lineker originally gave off the impression that he was unsure the move would be a success.
On Wednesday night against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, the 20-year-old scored his first goal for the team. Lineker is certain that the Denmark prospect will continue to improve as the season progresses even though that is still his only goal while wearing United colours.
He was in fact influential against Brighton where his goal was deemed as off-side. United lost 3-1 at home ending their 30-game unbeaten streak. There’s still a lot of time to prove his worth at the club and play a crucial role in helping the club score more goals.

It is easy for pundits to make comments saying a player will fail. Their job is to analyse the game and drive up viewership. But at least Lineker is modest enough to acknowledge his mistakes.
