Manchester United stars Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot send a strong message after record-breaking international win
Manchester United players Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot were part of the starting eleven for Portugal men’s national football team as they thrashed Luxembourg 9-0 in Euro 2024 qualification on 11th September 2023.
Portugal’s previous record was 8-0 victory which they achieved three times. They won 8-0 twice against Liechtenstein (1994 and 1999) and one time against Kuwait (2003).
Fernandes and his compatriots stepped up, showcasing their ability and team cohesiveness to get the job done as the Portuguese team played without their main star and captain Cristiano Ronaldo, who was suspended.
The team looked unplayable and unselfish as they demonstrated what may happen once Ronaldo retires from international level.

Gonçalo Inácio opened the scoreline through a brilliant assist from United captain Fernandes. Fernandes inspired his team throughout the game and contributed with one goal and three assists.
Inácio, Diogo Jota and Gonçalo Ramos ended the game with two goals each. Fernandes, Ricardo Horta, and João Félix scored one goal apiece to complete the nine-goal victory over their opponent.
Dalot played the full game as well, keeping a clean sheet for his country as they clinched the record-breaking victory.
Portugal are currently unbeaten in Group J of Euro 2024 qualifying rounds after clinching six straight victories in six games, accumulating 18 points. They are currently five points clear of Slovakia, who are 2nd in the group. Portugal scored 24 goals and managed to concede zero goals to demonstrate their dominance.
The Red Devils captain Fernandes and their reliable full-back Dalot have played pivotal roles for Portugal throughout the competition.
