Manchester United fans couldn’t get their hands on Rasmus Højlund’s jersey due to a surprise revelation about the special Danish alphabet
As revealed by journalist Mike Keegan of the Daily Mail, Manchester United fans were unable to buy Rasmus Højlund’s shirts as the club were left short of the Danish ‘ø’ alphabet in their stock.
The 20-year-old made a high-profile move to Man United from Atalanta for a fee of £72 million just a month ago.
Due to fitness concerns, his debut for the club was delayed until last weekend’s 3-1 loss to Arsenal. The Red Devils have high hopes for their new striker as they aim to challenge for silverware this season.
Nevertheless, fans faced difficulties in purchasing Højlund’s personalised club shirt from the store, with availability only coming on Thursday.
According to The Mail, the delay in offering the Danish ace’s shirts for sale at United’s store was because the club didn’t have the special Danish letter ‘ø’ in stock.
This unique character was needed for Højlund’s name. Fortunately, a shipment of these special letters arrived this week, enabling the sale of the striker’s shirts more than a month after his signing.
The fans won’t be pleased with this situation since it’s quite normal to see a surge in demand for a particular player’s shirt once he signs for a club like Man United.
In this case, it was the young former Serie A star, whose recent addition would have certainly excited the fans.
However, not getting a jersey in the store for an entire month would be a disappointing and rather unexpected mistake from a club with such a big stature.
Purchasing a customised Højlund shirt from United’s official club store doesn’t come at a low cost. A standard ‘stadium’ jersey, or replica, is priced at £95 for fans.
Meanwhile, an ‘authentic’ shirt, which is the same as the one worn by the players, is available for £125. The No. 11 will finally get to see a lot of fans wearing his shirt after a long waiting time.
