Olympique Lyon left-back Nicolas Tagliafico contacted by Manchester United

Manchester United have made contact to acquire the services of Nicolas Tagliafico from Olympique Lyon this summer, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

As things stand, Luke Shaw is currently on the sidelines. Apart from the English national, Tyrell Malacia has also been out of action for some time now.

Diogo Dalot started as the left-back against Nottingham Forest on 26 August in the Premier League at home as we managed to get a 3-2 win. Therefore, the Old Trafford side evidently need to add reinforcements to the left-hand side of the defence.

To that end, United have a number of options on their radar. At the moment, the Red Devils are still evaluating the best option to bolster their backline.

The Old Trafford side have already gotten in touch with Chelsea for Marc Cucurella. Barcelona’s Marcos Alonso and Sergio Reguilon of Tottenham Hotspur are also on the club’s radar.

However, United have now also enquired about getting a hold of Tagliafico’s signature. The Argentina international is well known by Erik ten Hag.

In January 2018, the 2022 World Cup winner moved to Ajax Amsterdam from Independiente. Subsequently, the 30-year-old was a key player for the Eredivisie outfit under the Dutch manager.

Then, in the summer of 2022, Tagliafico signed for Lyon. At Les Gones, the left-back has been an ever-present part of the team. He has also started the new campaign in fine fashion, finding the back of the net once in three appearances in Ligue 1.

It remains to be seen who the Red Devils will end up acquiring the services in the final days before the transfer deadline. Another injury to one of our defenders could arguably derail our season before it even starts properly. Hopefully, the Old Trafford side will be able to get a deal over the line soon.
