Bayern Munich identify Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay as ‘favourite’
Manchester United star Scott McTominay has been identified by Bayern Munich as the ‘favourite’ to bolster their engine room this summer, according to Bild’s head of football Christian Falk on Twitter.
The Bavarians are looking to add reinforcements in the middle of the park in the ongoing transfer window. To that end, they are interested in acquiring the services of the Scotland international from the Red Devils.
At the moment, the 26-year-old is the leading candidate for the Bundesliga giants on their shortlist for the number six position. The German outfit are pursuing a deal with the Old Trafford side and the player’s camp.
McTominay made his way through the youth ranks at United. Subsequently, a few years back, under Jose Mourinho, the midfielder was handed opportunities for the senior side.
Since then, the Scottish national has been ever-present in the first-team setup. He formed a decent partnership with Fred in the engine room alongside Fred under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
However, the Brazilian left for Fenerbahce recently and McTominay has been a bit-part player since Erik ten Hag’s arrival. The Dutch manager has not counted on the midfielder to start matches on a regular basis.

Casemiro has been the gaffer’s preferred option in the pivot role in the middle of the park. The former Real Madrid star has been key to United’s success over the last year.
The Brazilian has started in every fixture this season so far. On the other hand, McTominay has warmed the bench mostly, only being afforded short cameos against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest.

Competition for places at the Old Trafford side is evidently high. However, Bayern have an abundance of quality in their engine room as well, with the likes of Joshua Kimmich, Konrad Laimer, Leon Goretzka and Ryan Gravenberch. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether the Scottish nation will move to Bavaria in the coming days.
