Chelsea open to letting Marc Cucurella leave on loan amidst Manchester United interest
Premier League rivals Chelsea are open to letting Marc Cucurella leave on loan this summer amidst interest from Manchester United, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.
The Red Devils are looking to bolster the left-hand side of the defence in the final days of the ongoing transfer window. To that end, the Spain international is on the Old Trafford side’s radar.
United have already gotten in touch with the Blues regarding getting a hold of the left-back’s signature. While the Stamford Bridge side are willing to part ways with the 25-year-old, they will want a fee to sanction the temporary move plus the coverage of his salary.
Now it is up to the Red Devils whether they want to pursue Cucurella. As things stand, the Old Trafford side have three options on their shortlist and it remains to be seen whether Chelsea’s defender will make his way to the club soon.
In the summer of 2022, the left-back joined the Blues from Brighton & Hove Albion. At the Seagulls, the Spaniard enjoyed a brilliant debut season, which led to the Stamford Bridge side come knocking for him.
However, Cucurella struggled at the West London club in the previous campaign. The defender did not put in encouraging performances under Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter or Frank Lampard. At the moment, Ben Chilewell seems to be ahead of the Spaniard in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.
Luke Shaw recently picked up an injury. It will be interesting to see how long the English national will be out for. While we could arguably have managed the former Southampton star’s fitness issue, Tyrell Malacia being out of action complicates things.
