Bayern Leverkusen defender and Manchester United target Jeremie Frimpong is being eyed by Premier League rivals Chelsea, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Daily Mail).

The Blues are interested in acquiring the services of the Holland national in the ongoing transfer window. However, the Stamford Bridge side would need to put in a sizeable offer to convince the Bundesliga outfit to sell.

Also, apart from the West London club, the Red Devils are also in the race for the right-back. As per Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg on Twitter, the Old Trafford side are one of the teams with the 22-year-old on their radar.

Leverkusen signed Frimpong in January 2021 from Celtic. The defender has been a key player for the German side since then. Under Xabi Alonso, he thrived in the previous campaign.

The Holland national has started the new season in fine fashion as well. He has made three appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit so far, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

Having made his way through the youth ranks at Manchester City, Frimpong is sort of familiar with the English game. The Holland national also played for Celtic in Scotland before moving to Germany.

At United, the right-hand side of the defence has been dominated by Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the last few months. The former Crystal Palace star has moved ahead of Diogo Dalot in the pecking order.

Erik ten Hag trusted the Portugal international at the start of the 2022/23 term. However, the English national has been the gaffer’s preferred option at right-back this season.

For now, the Old Trafford side have enough quality on the right-hand side of the defence. Although, Chelsea also have decent options in Reece James and Malo Gusto. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether either of the teams will make a move for Frimpong in the coming days.
