Former Leicester City star Ryan Bertrand eyed by Manchester United
Manchester United have set their sights on former Southampton and Leicester City star Ryan Bertrand this summer, according to the Express (h/t Manchester Evening News).
As things stand, the 34-year-old is a free agent. The veteran defender parted ways with the Foxes at the end of last season after their relegation to the Championship.
To that end, the Red Devils are considering making an approach to acquire the services of the English national in the ongoing transfer window. However, it remains to be seen whether the Old Trafford side will take concrete steps to sign him.
Bertrand was on the books at Chelsea for over a decade. However, the full-back spent most of his time on loan while with the Blues. Subsequently, in the summer of 2015, Southampton permanently signed the defender.
The English national went out to carve a decent career for himself at the Saints. Then, in the summer of 2021, Leicester came knocking for the left-back’s signature. Unfortunately, injuries have hampered his game time over the years.
Therefore, considering Bertrand’s fitness issues in recent times, it seems unwise to pursue him. Although, the English national is an experienced individual and has previously lifted the Champions League trophy with Chelsea.
At United, as per MEN, Luke Shaw is feared to be out for almost two months. As a result, Erik ten Hag will evidently be left without one of his main players at the club.
Tyrell Malacia is also unavailable at the moment. Thus, Diogo Dalot will seemingly have to play out of position, as he did on a number of occasions in the previous campaign. However, we could arguably do with additional reinforcements in the full-back area.

Will the Red Devils end up signing someone to bolster the left-hand side of the defence? Only time will tell. But Alvaro Fernandez is also at the club and it would not be the worst thing to rely on our youth.
